Cloisonne Box with Lid
The method of cloisonné dates back to ancient times - making its way from the Middle East and North Africa, to Europe, and to East Asia. Metallic ribbons are bent and shaped to create small cells that are then soldered to the bronze base, and filled with enamel. This box is decorated with a phoenix, flowers, butterflies, and ornamental shapes.
While it likely had some type of knob at the top at some point, the hole it left now makes this perfect incense holder!
