Small Embroidery Composite
Greek Islands composite panels were created by using fragments of old embroideries to create new patterns. As Greek and ottoman embroideries often have large bare areas, those parts often deteriorated while the embroidered pieces remained intact, so the composites recycled the embroidered parts in a new imaginative way.
This composite features mainly borders of Ottoman ritual towels with florals. They are arranged in a diamond shape in the center with diagonal stripes filling in the gaps, and three borders on the outside. The entire piece is backed with yellow cotton.
